The Aragon Ballroom on the Chicago north side had another Sold Out capacity crowd fill their venue for the best in Hip Hop Music. Power 92 (Chicago 92.3 FM), hosted their Annual Spring Jam 2005 concert featuring only solid top acts in the hip-hop, dance and urban music scene today. Headlined by Ludacris, who since 2000 has been lighting up all national radio stations and MTV throughout the nation and world play brought everyone to their feet. Coming out of Atlanta and giving Chicago fans his flavor, which is never put down in Chi-Town. Ludacris enjoys the rewards of being one of the highest rated rap stars in the industry who has collaborated with chart busting urban acts in the industry. As Ludacris raced from side to side on stage, the girls shaked what they had and the guys kicked back in cool stance as they absorbed the music that Ludacris brought to Spring Jam by Power 92. This was no teenage show, giving the fans what they paid to come see, till almost 2 AM for a Chicago Saturday night on April 9, 2005.
You would think this show was produced in Atlanta because just before Ludacris you had the Twins; "The Ying Yang Twins" shaking their groove and making everyone do it right. The party was prepped, and the Ying Yang Twins had the fans kicking out the crunk. Where was Lil Jon this night? The Ying Yang Twins gave a high-energy club performance turning this venue into one big nightclub scene. As the final sets were sung, the Twins were joined by a stage full of shaking bootie!
One of the anticipated rappers for the Chicago fan base is always Twista. When Twista hit the stage you know who he is and where he is and why he's here! Chicago's very own "Twista" took over the stage at the Aragon Ballroom throwing his name out to the fans brighter than the spotlights. Prominently fixed with white lights displaying "Twista" burned into the eyes of everyone. Busting out his lyrics and sharing his art with Chicago and worldwide since the mid-1990's. The stage was his and the Power 92 fans were his main course this night.
But even before Twista, Ying Yang Twins and Ludacris, newcomers (or not so new) were Brooke Valentine and Mike Jones. Brooke Valentine now soloing and supporting her new release "Chain Letter," immediately had the crowd ooohing as Brooke brought SEX APPEAL to this night full of male rappers. Glowing and looking tight, Brooke Valentine opened up her vocals and showed some moves. I am sure this lady is hitting the music circuit hard as women have been in the music industry over the decades and proving its their music too. Who Is Mike Jones? Some may ask, well Mike Jones made sure that you knew "Who Is Mike Jones?" Before anyone even walked into the venue and as you strutted through the Aragon you could not miss and pick up flyers and posters that were scattered all over. Now you knew who Mike Jones was. He had the Chicago crowd on their feet rolling back and forth on the stage; if you blinked the man was already on the other side.
Power 92 Spring Break Jam hosted more than 4 hours of music, urban acts and had the party going on stage. Between performers, radio personalities Rocsi and Donnie would get the radio fans vibes going as they pumped up the acts to come on. Inviting girls to show some beauty and even bringing out the flamboyant night hustling pimps from Chicago streets. The Power Jam 92 was a kick ass event that I too enjoyed from the music, the girls and the fans.
