Celtic Thunder

Celtic Thunder

Irish singing group, Celtic Thunder, hit San Diego's Balboa Theater Thursday night.
The original group was formed in 2007 and have released 11 albums, 10 live DVDs and have had 9 public television shows since then. For a nostalgic touch this tour, they used their original stage set used in their first performance in Dublin. A backdrop of lightning and stormy clouds with a center cut abstract square (wider on the left and smaller on the right). This square was us... [Read More about Celtic Thunder ]

Soto

Soto

S.O.T.O is the name band from name giver Jeff Scott Soto and marks his return to the music that made him famous in his debuting days. With Yngwie J. Malmsteen he recorded some of the most groundbreaking new styled metal songs and his star was rising. Joining forces with metal greats such as the talented shredders Kuni and Axel Rudi Pell enforced his name in the scene. His passion for melodic rock also made him work on classics such as Eyes, Takara and Talisman, the latt... [Read More about Soto]

Sledge Leather

Leather Leone, remember her? She once was ruling the metal wasteland as one of the leading female voices of heavy metal. The voice of Chastain who added fuel to the metallic fire of David T.'s amazing shreds and killer riffs, also recording an acclaimed solo record "Shockwaves," before vanish... [Read More]

Stereophonics

When I found out Stereophonics was coming to Chicago, I practically sprung out of my chair and straight into a colleague of mine....who by the way was carrying three full and hot cups of hipster brand coffee. (*Oops.) But, I was SO excited!! I mean, who wouldn't be?! -- It's Stereophonics! ... [Read More]

B.B. King

The thrill may be gone at times, but the King keeps going. B.B. King played the Chicago House of Blues, this past Thursday and Friday, to sold out crowds of adoring fans. While he did play an hour and a half set, he didn't seem to be on his top game.

B.B. King, ... [Read More]

Garth Brooks

I have to start with saying "WOW." I saw Garth Brooks live in 1996 performing in Lansing, Michigan. He was just as good 18 years ago as he was tonight. The house was packed floor to ceiling. Not one person sitting in their seat. Almost every person knew every word to every song. Garth started ... [Read More]

De Staat - Vinticious Versions (2014)

Unlike their name proclaims, De Staat is not performing their music in Dutch. That being said, this band has established international fame with their infectious rock/crossover tunes with stoner guitar walls and Britpop infected harmonies, which landed them slots on acclaimed festivals as Lowland... Foo Fighters - Sonic Highways (2014)

Road Trip through Sonic Highways

Foo Fighters is what I call a "phoenix" band. Not because they got a degree online, but because they have risen from the ashes of a band that faded too soon. Like New Order came from Joy Division, Foo Fighters was born in the wake of Nirvana's e... [Read More]

Slayer

"Fuck all that shit; Slayer was fucking awesome!"

What can be said about tonight that hasn't already been written? Metal isn't dead, the crowd was fantastic, and the band simply rocks. Slayer has been out there since the 80s, and unlike another all too obvious heavy metal band out there, the years and success haven't corrupted the energy or quality of Slayer's performance.

Chicago's famous Aragon ... [Read More][View Gallery]

DANTE'S INFERNO (1935)

DANTE'S INFERNO (1935)

Working class heroes, New Wavy of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM), heavy metal, and heroes; all these sum up the mighty Saxon. The band around charismatic shouter Biff Byford stood the test of time. Saxon is a test of time which was loaded with mischief. Saxon not only suffered from bad management, band intrigues and break ups, in addition Saxon suffered from the (many) turn of tides as well. But always and forever, Saxon proved to be as solid as a rock, not giving in to hatred and mishaps....[Read More]

VINEGAR SYNDROME T.V.

VINEGAR SYNDROME T.V.

I don't know about you but I tend to spend hours searching through Netflix, Hulu and Warner Archive desperately searching for something decent to watch. I usually come up empty handed. Netflix is now only interested in recent films. F%@#!@#k you if you want to watch something from the '60s. Hulu is a joke only good for watching The Daily Show (and Criterion I guess). Warner Archive is OK but they have a very, very limited selection of genre titles. Basically, if I'm looking for some good old exploitation trash my only real option is a shitty, 360p VHS rip on Youtube. So yeah, I'm interested in this...[Read More]
