The Odd Couple The Odd Couple

"It probably is the best comedy ever written for the American stage." ~Larry King.

The Odd Couple starring Walther Matthau and Jack Lemmon is one of the classic American comedies that I am sure we all have seen. I personally have owned this movie on VHS and DVD. I am happy to check out the new Centennial Collection by Paramount. Disc II. The DVD pack has commentaries about the production, including a bit of history about Neil Simon, Lemmon and Matthau. The extra features quickly reviews the actors careers, how they came together and what they brought to the set and the film. Jack Lemmon was the A list motion picture comedic actor at the time and the The Odd Couple propelled Matthau to further star greatness. It was great to see both actors reunited, playing similar roles decades later, in Grumpy Old Men. A successful play, blockbuster movie and a long running television series, The Odd Couple brought the whole circle in a wonderful comedy by Simon, and all with a G Rating targeted at the adult audiences. The Odd Couple was a joy to watch again and I can see myself sitting with my father and watching the movie, just to laugh our heads off back when I was 10 and today. In addition the DVD pack comes with eight page memorabilia booklet, featuring some quick classic lines from the movie, history of the production and how the film evolved from a play, movie to a television series. I also quickly want to mention the history movies such as The Odd Couple have in our popular culture by utilizing the scenery. You can check out some of New York City in the 1960s. Those scenes will live in forever.

To be honest, I watched the Odd Couple on AMC or TMC just a few weeks back...I can't turn the channel, it's just a great movie. I would not rush to buy the new DVD if you have an earlier version, but if you do not I would invest it for your home movie collection.

The Odd CoupleThe Odd Couple is schedule to be released on March 24, 2009 on Paramount Home Entertainment as part of the Centennial Collections which also includes another classic To Catch A Thief.
