Friday the 13th Uncut Friday the 13th Uncut [Blu-ray]

Synopsis: RIP into a chilling new UNCUT DELUXE EDITION of Friday the 13th. With newly extended unrated scenes and insightful special features, plunge deeper into the film that spawned 10 sequels and the genre's unstoppable bad guy, Jason Vorhees. When a new owner and several young counselors gather to re-open Camp Crystal Lake, where a young boy drowned and several vicious unsolved murders occurred years earlier, they ignore the local's warnings that the place has a "death curse"...and one by one they find out just how unlucky Friday the 13th can be as they are stalked by a violent killer.

How do you review a movie that is 29 years old? I asked myself who hasn't seen this movie or who isn't familiar with Jason Vorhees? I suppose if you have been living under a rock you may not know the man in the hockey mask, but the question is where he came from. In this new release of the original Friday The 13th we get to relive the terror that was first introduced to us at Camp Crystal Lake and spawned off 10 sequels to date and another reinvention of the franchise that is soon to be released theatrically later this month on, appropriately, Friday the 13th. I remember seeing these movies years ago and being terrified to no end and when I watch them now, they are a bit dated but still hold up as being very nostalgic. That unforgettable eerie music whenever danger is near holds up and really builds the suspense. While films of this genre have far surpassed the blood and guts that has become the norm, one thing that this movie did have was an unforgettable performance by Betsy Palmer. Nobody has been creepier in 29 years than when Betsy Palmer is chasing Adrienne King and cries out "Kill her Mommy, KILL HER." I still have nightmares and just watching it gives me goose bumps.

This release is being offered on Blu-ray and is surprisingly good. The audio and picture are better than other films from this era that have been put in the Blu-ray format.

There are plenty of extras on this DVD and a good amount is presented in HD.

BONUS FEATURES:

  • Commentary by Director Sean S. Cunningham with cast and crew
  • (HD) Friday the 13th reunion -- September 13, 2008
  • (HD) Fresh cuts: New tales from Friday the 13th
  • (HD) The man behind the legacy: Sean S. Cunningham
  • (HD) Lost tales from Camp Blood -- Part 1
  • The Friday the 13th chronicles
  • Secrets galore behind the gore
  • (HD) Theatrical trailer

The bonus features are quite interesting and give an in-depth look at how the idea for this film began. I really am a fan of this franchise and this being a classic is definitely worth adding to your Blu-ray library.
