Ferris Bueller's Day Off [Blu-ray] by Rob Grabowski for UnRated Magazine [May 13, 2009]
Ferris Bueller's Day Off Ferris Bueller's Day Off [Blu-ray]

High-schooler Ferris Bueller (Mathew Broderick), his girlfriend Sloane (Mia Sara), and his best bud Cameron (Alan Ruck) are off on the spontaneous romp through Chicago known as Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. You’ll also enjoy righteous bonus materials that give you an insider’s peek at this hilarious comedy hit from John Hughes (Planes, Trains & Automobiles, Sixteen Candles).   So, barf up a lung, forge a “sick note” from the parents, and tag along on the funniest adventure to ever sweep through the Windy City.   What are you still doing here? Save Ferris!

When I first saw Ferris Bueller’s Day Off back in 1986 I had just finished my freshman year of high school in Chicago, IL. Seeing how Ferris and Cameron blew off school and tooled around Chicago made every kid envious and trying to figure out their own scam to get out and enjoy the city.

Revisiting this movie in the Blu-ray format made me remember just how many movie sayings came from this movie. So many lines are used in ever day culture even today over twenty years later. The picture quality is a bit grainy but the colors have been cleaned up and are extremely vibrant and the Dolby TrueHD audio track really shines. In fact, I didn’t remember the musical score being so energetic and setting the tone but, the updated audio really immerses you into the fun ride the trio goes on.

Special Features:

  • Getting the Class Together: The Cast of Ferris Bueller's Day Off
  • The Making of Ferris Bueller's Day Off
  • Who is Ferris Bueller?
  • The World According to Ben Stein - A short featurette
  • Vintage Ferris Bueller: The Lost Tapes
  • Class Album - An image gallery
I know this movie gets taken for granted seeing how often you can find it on any given channel but, seeing it from beginning to end in 1080p and hearing it in Dolby TrueHD really was a treat. This is one of the greatest high school movies ever made and will certainly take you for a stroll down memory lane so I can’t recommend enough adding this to your Blu-ray collection. Who knows maybe the next time you have to stay home from work and take a genuine sick day, you may want to throw in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and pick your spirits up.
