Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa [Blu-ray] by Rob Grabowski for UnRated Magazine [February 23, 2008]
MADAGASCAR: ESCAPE 2 AFRICA Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa [Blu-ray]

Our favorite New York Zoo animals, Alex the Lion,, Melman the Giraffe, Marty the Zebra, and Gloria the Hippo, return for the sequel to the 2005 hit Madagascar. In Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa we find our furry friends trying to leave Madagascar and return home to New York. While they manage to leave Madagascar in a plane piloted by penguins, they crash land in Africa. Alex the Lion happens to run into his long lost parents but, the reunion isn't perfect as Alex is different and has a hard time communicating with his parents after spending so much time at the Central Park Zoo. Marty finds other Zebras and fits right in as they look and sound just like him. Melman becomes a witch doctor, as the only option for giraffes when they become sick is to crawl into a hole and die. Gloria gets swept away by a hunky hippo named Moto Moto. Each of our beloved characters has life lessons to learn and the main lesson is that you need to be true to yourself and who you are.

I really found this movie fun and a great family film. It is a great movie that isn't only entertaining but educational too. Seeing it in Blu-ray really makes the experience something special. Every time I see an animated film, the quality keeps getting better and better and Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa truly blows you away. The audio in Dolby TrueHD will knock your socks off. From the wind blowing through the trees and a crystal clear perfectly mixed dialogue to the funky bass in the music, your speakers and subwoofer will get the opportunity to showcase why you made the investment in the first place. The picture and audio are truly reference quality to show off your home theater set up.

Included on this Blu-ray DVD are plenty of extras to keep you and the kids entertained for hours. There are so many things to do from the director's commentary to a video jukebox. The other neat thing is that there are Easter Eggs on this disk which means that there is even more bonus features that you have to search for on the disk to find. You should be able to do an Internet search showing you where to find and how to unlock the extra bonus materials. This will provide more fun for the kids to try and figure it out.
