Shrek The Halls Rated G
Paramount Home Entertainment and Dreamworks Home Entertainment
DVD Release Date: November 4, 2008

Shrek The Halls by Adam Bielawski for UnRated Magazine [Release Date: November 9, 2008]

If you want to review a kid's movie, then you have to put a child in front of the television and have them watch the video. That is exactly what I did, I did not want to rate this movie from my perspective but from what a couple of seven year olds saw. They loved it, but the question asked was why was it so short? Shrek the Halls originally aired in 2007 for the holidays; twenty-two minutes of Shrek and eight minutes of commercials. Shrek appeals to me as an adult because it does have adult humor, and the characters (Shrek, Donkey, Puss 'n Boots and Fiona) that the kids fell in love with. I do hope it airs again this Holiday Season for prime time because it's a good Christmas TV show to add to the Holiday Classics.

The bonus features consist of two sing a longs which include: The Twelve Days of Christmas and Deck the Halls. Grapping the characters from Madagascar (yes the penguins rule this tune). They were entertaining and the children enjoyed signing along. The other feature extra was the Gingy's Dunking Game, my child enjoyed. It tested her skills of choosing the difference between the three gingerbread men, after about 15 minutes of play, she got bored and wanted to move to something else. Same with the game cheat codes, it is aimed not at adults but at children.... I did not move on to the so called cheat codes but it's a tease for parents to buy the game. We passed. In addition a bunch of music videos were added on from the DreamWorks database... however I felt these videos were cut short because the whole song was not played. Navigating through the bonus features probably took more time than the actual disc content which is just under 30 minutes.

Overall I felt Shrek the Halls was very entertaining, I know I will watch it again. Shrek the Halls is an excellent addition to the all time Holiday Classics for the Christmas Season. However, I don't know if I would run out to buy this DVD for what it's priced. I do hope it will be rotated on TV with the rest of the classics. However this video is priced as a full length movie, and I cannot justify paying for that.
