Anvil: The Story of Anvil Anvil: The Story of Anvil

Robb and Lips, we are here for you... Anvil, the next heavy metal Rock Stars!

Back in June (June 21, 2009) I watched the Spike's Guy Choice Awards where someone Special appeared on stage, the Canadian band members, Robb and Lips from Anvil. Yes I do remember them back in the 80s when I was just first getting into metal. It was a colorful album and pure metal. Now the guys are in their 50s aging as many other rock stars, were introduced to announce something, Lips stating, "Hey we're Anvil, look us up in Google." Hilarious as it was, it was one of the highlights of the show. Since then I wanted to check out the documentary. Finally I did, saw it aired on VH1. It's also scheduled to come out on DVD in stores on October 6, 2009.

The movie documents Robb Reiner and Steve "Lips" Kudlow on their 2005 tour in the through Europe, production of their latest album and the search for distribution of their latest 2009 album "This Is Thirteen." The CD was released on September 15, 2009 on VH1 Classic albums and the DVD on October 6, 2009 on VH1 Films. Many have noted that this movie is the true story of Spinal Tap. It is entertaining about metal heads pursuing their dreams of rock stars. Working dead end jobs and busting their ass for metal stardom. In one of the scenes in the movie, Anvil is stoked to perform in Transylvania 10,000 full capacity stadium. The show seemed to have been marketed pretty well as "Monsters of Transylvania" per the scene in the movie, but only 174 fans showed up. Still that did not take away from the moment.

In their 50s now, Robb and Lips have not gave up, out of Toronto, Canada, with pursuit of the greatest album of their careers. You want these guys to succeed. I have not seen something as this since the guys from Milwaukee in American Movie.

"For me, I'll play for no one, I don't give a shit, I love to play just to hear the sound", "but it's everybody else that goes with that, the people that have spent the money to bring you there and everything, and my heart goes out to that aspect too," says Lips.

This is a must see, if you love Spinal Tap and American Movie, you will totally love Anvil: The Story of Anvil.

Anvil is now on tour, probably selling out because of the success of this movie. I even picked up, "This Is Thirteen." They were a promising heavy metal band back in the 1980s, now it's 2009, let us help them succeed and put Avnil back on the Metal History pages. Get out and support the guys, it's about time we all got a break in this bleak world at times... Anvil ROCKS! Long Live Rock 'n Roll!
