Dexter: The Complete Third Season Standard Blu-Ray Widescreen
Dexter (Michael C. Hall) is a very likeable character whom you would have a hard time believing is a serial killer with his boy next door personality and mild manner demeanor. He hides his lust for killing by working as a forensic blood spatter analyst and working for the police department that would be the same hunting him down should he slip up. This comes into play in season two but, for right now, we will stick with season one and why it works so well. Dexter only kills those who deserve it. So what's wrong with that?
He avenges those who have been wronged and for whatever reason they eluded justice and Dexter unleashes his own brand of justice. He learned from his father Harry, who was a police officer, how to hide what the police would use to look for his kind and how to clean up after he kills and basically what needs to be done to not get caught.
Season three is the best season yet. After season two seemed to get off of track from season one, the story line rebounds perfectly in season three. We start off with Dexter going to do his brand of justice on a drug dealer named "Frebo." When Dexter shows up to engage Frebo he finds him struggling with a man and a knife. As Frebo gets loose and flees, the man turns to attack Dexter who kills him in self-defense. The unknown man turns out to be Oscar Prado the brother of assistant district attorney Miguel Prado (Jimmy Smits). His death becomes a top priority for the Miami police department and the hunt is on to find Frebo. Dexter is most interested in finding him before the police do as he saw his face and knows that he killed Oscar Prado. As Dexter's involvement in the case grows, Miguel Prado can't help but notice and wonders why he is so involved. Dexter convinces Miguel that he wants Frebo brought to justice and avenge Oscar's death. With this, Miguel and Dexter become close and even become friends, you might even say best friends as the plot thickens, Miguel learns things about Dexter that could be detrimental to Dexter and his own personal mission. While all of this is going on, Dexter's girlfriend Rita is pregnant and that forces him to make choices and decisions that can complicate his personal work.
The chemistry between Dexter and Miguel flows naturally and really brings the story into a deeper level than we have seen over the past two seasons. The writing and acting is second to none and the camera work and direction delivers a smart and thought provoking series.
Seeing season three in the Blu-ray format and hearing it in Dolby TrueHD makes for an enjoyable experience. The video quality is life-like and crisp with vibrant Miami colors to blood splattering lend to a stunning picture. The Dolby TrueHD soundtrack has perfect dialogue levels and separation in the surround speakers takes the experience to a higher level. With eerie music and background sounds, your home theater will get a work out and envelope you in the story.

Being able to watch all the episodes on Blu-ray DVD is really a treat. It has more of a mini series feel and you are constantly left wanting more after each episode and with the entire series on Blu-ray you can run through them in one big marathon weekend of Dexter. The cast is superb and each character serves an integral part in this series. It's funny to think that one might be on the side of a serial killer. This was the best season to date and hopefully season four will pick up where this one left off.
