I Love You, Man (Blu-ray) by Rob Grabowski for UnRated Magazine [August 25, 2009]
I Love You, Man I Love You, Man (Blu-ray)

In this wildly funny hit comedy, Paul Rudd (KNOCKED UP) gets engaged to the girl of his dreams but has not a single guy friend to be his Best Man until he meets the ultimate dude, Jason Segal (FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL). Rudd and Segal's "bro-mance" takes male-bonding to hilarious new heights that keep you laughing until the unforgettable last frame.

After proposing to his girlfriend, Zooey Rice (Rashida Jones), Peter Klaven (Paul Rudd), a struggling real estate agent, realizes that unlike his fiancée, who calls her girlfriends to tell them of the news, he has no male buddies to call. In fact, he starts to realize that he has no one to be his best man and this concerns him as well as Zooey. After enlisting the help of his brother Robbie (Andy Samberg), Peter goes on a number of unsuccessful "man dates". Focusing his attention on trying to sell a house that belongs to Lou Ferrigno, Peter meets Sydney Fife at an open house he is having trying to sell Ferrigno's home. Fife is very honest and charismatic and explains how he goes to open house for the food and to meet divorcées. The two immediately hit it off and start to hang out and become friends. With this third party added to the mix, the relationship between Peter and Zooey gets a bit strained.

Paul Rudd and Jason Segal have great chemistry in this film and play off of each other quite well. While I feel there are scenes that seem to drag on, there are funny moments that showcase their talent. Some of the best scenes involve Lou Ferrigno as himself. I believe some of the best scenes were omitted and can be found in the deleted scenes section. One in particular that should have definitely been kept in the movie is when the wedding photographer is posing the groomsmen in some hilarious poses. There are additional bonus features that are worth taking a look at as well.

Bonus Features:

  • Featurette: Gag Reel HD
  • Easter Eggs: Easter Eggs

The Blu-ray version is what you would expect from the Blu-ray format in full1080p. The quality is sharp and vibrant with strong detail giving an in person life-like feeling. I felt that the quality ran true throughout the film and the Dobly TrueHD soundtrack delivers a very clear dialogue with ample sound effects and very dynamic background music. There is a scene with the band Rush where you will feel like you are at the concert with how well the separation is throughout the surround speakers and subwoofer.

I Love You, Man is a fun-filled "Dude" type of movie. I felt that the chemistry that Rudd and Segal have is strong but, I couldn't help but feel that something was lacking at times. Some of the scenes seemed a bit forced and were really grasping f or a laugh. Over all, I did enjoy this movie and definitely recommend renting it. I am not sure that this is a must own movie and will play to your individual tastes. The saving grace besides Lou Ferrigno is how good the picture and sound quality are in the Blu-ray format.
