X-Men Origins: Wolverine by Rob Grabowski for UnRated Magazine [September 28, 2009]
X-Men Origins: Wolverine X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Synopsis:

Leading up to the events of X-Men, X-Men Origins: Wolverine tells the story of Wolverine's epically violent and romantic past, his complex relationship with Victor Creed and the ominous Weapon X program. Along the way, Wolverine encounters many mutants, both familiar and new, including surprise appearances by several legends of the X-Men universe whose appearances in the film have long been anticipated.

The prequel to the X-Men movies shows how James Howlett came to be Wolverine. We learn about his relationship with Victor Creed who eventually becomes Sabretooth. Their backstory shows how they grew up together and their special skills in killing and how they fought in various wars. They meet William Stryker and join a team of mercenaries. While on a mission, James Howlett reaches his boiling point and quits the team as he can't continue killing and this puts a rift between him and Victor. After 6 years pass, members of Stryker's team are turning up murdered and when James' girlfriend winds up murdered as well, he is presented with the opportunity to undergo a painful process that will allow him to self heal and also give him and indestructible skeleton and the trade mark claws. As the story goes, Jimmy undergoes the surgery successfully and Wolverine is born.

This is really an interesting look at how some of the characters come to be in the X-Men story and how these characters interact. Seeing this in the Blu-ray format provides a very crisp resolution picture and has a very high contrast with deep blacks and excellent shadow detail in the darker scenes. The colors are vibrant but there were scenes that really showed some digital noise and it appeared to be because of the CGI during those scenes. The DTS-HD Master Audio provides punchy bass and very tight effects with a subtle dialogue center channel that I would have liked to have heard more punch behind. With gunfire and plenty of explosions your subwoofer will have your house shaking.

If you are an X-Men fan you are certain to enjoy this movie seeing how Wolverine comes to be one of our favorite "Superhero's". I did find myself enjoying this movie but, Wolverine isn't as hard as he is in later movies and I think I would have liked to really see him being that tough and rugged "animal" he is in later movies but, I digress, this movie does deliver and is a must own film for any comic book movie fan and seeing it in Blu-ray makes the experience that much more enjoyable.
