It is not hard to see how the legendary country music outlaw Willie Nelson has had a 50+ year career in music. Performing at the outdoor pavilion Ravinia, about 25 miles north of Chicago, the sell-out crowd was clapping and singing as the legend performed his timeless classic hits along with some newer songs. As Willie and his band took stage a large Texas flagged rolled down and provided their back-drop. A few members of the band are part of the Nelson clan including his sister Bobbie who soared on piano, son Micah hitting the drums, and son Lukas was quite impressive on guitar and helped out a few times on vocals.
Willie sported one long braid and at times wore a cowboy hat and his trademark red bandana. He led off the night with the popular Whiskey River and the show took a snappy pace from here. Other songs he performed included the heart-wrenching Always On My Mind, classic Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys, signature favorite On the Road Again, the sweet Georgia On My Mind, and the beautiful Patsy Cline hit penned by Nelson Crazy.
Glad this music icon is back on the road again!
