Wayne's World (Blue-ray) by Rob Grabowski for UnRated Magazine [May 21, 2009]
Wayne's World 2 Wayne's World (Blue-ray)

The success of their TV show allows Wayne Campbell (Mike Myers) and Garth Algar (Dana Carvey) to finally move out of their parents' homes, but now they have to figure out what to do with their lives. Wayne's girlfriend, up-and-coming rock star Cassandra (Tia Carrere), is enjoying a career boost thanks to her new manager Bobby Cohn (Christopher Walker), but Garth thinks that Bobby is more interested in her body than her place on the charts. Meanwhile, Wayne is visited in a dream by the late Jim Morrison (Michael A. Nickles), who convinces him to promote a massive rock festival, "Waynestock," featuring Aerosmith as headliners. Garth, on the other hand, is finally relieved of his pesky virginity by femme fatale Honey Hornee (Kim Basinger), though it turns out that Honey has a hidden agenda.   Drew Barrymore, Harry Shearer, and Charlton Heston play cameo roles in Wayne's World 2, and Jay Leno, Rip Taylor, and Todd Rundgren appear as themselves.

OK so it isn’t as good as the original but, Wayne’s World 2 did what any movie that was successful before it needs to do and that is make it bigger with bigger stars and over the top story line. On that notion, Wayne’s World delivers. I suppose it is hard to catch lightning twice, especially after the first movie was so genuine and original. I enjoyed Wayne’s World 2 but realistically if I had a choice which one would I want to watch again the choice is simple and that would be the first one.

I will say that the additions of Christopher Walken, Heather Locklear, and of course Aerosmith led to the excitement the first time around but it really isn’t enough glue to hold the story together. Some of the same story line is rehashed from the first Wayne’s World and then some story line that is just grasping at straws leaves you feeling a little put off. I mean a half naked Indian running around really does nothing for me.

The Blu-ray has a nice picture but nothing to brag about. In fact, I found the definition and colors stronger in the first movie The Dolby TrueHD did sound about as good as the first movie and does tend to deliver during the concert scenes.

Again as in the first movie, the bonus features aren’t worth mentioning.

I am a fan of Wayne and Garth so there are some fun scenes in this movie and the whole movie feels like it is a montage of skits with out any real story line being the glue to pull it all together. I would have to say that this movie is for the die-hard fans that want to complete their collection but, if you are trying to decide which movie to watch, please do yourself a favor and put in the first Wayne’s World. You wont be disappointed.
