Event Horizon [Blu-ray] by Rob Grabowski for UnRated Magazine [December 20, 2008]
Event Horizon Event Horizon [Blu-ray]

The EVENT HORIZON was a spaceship that went missing seven years ago on its maiden voyage. A weak signal has been found coming from the lost spacecraft prompting a rescue mission for the craft and to learn what happened to the crew. We then learn that wherever the craft has been is pure evil and that evil is now a part of the ship. This film never really caught on when it came out over a decade ago but, has grown to have a cult following. And now with it being available for the first time on Blu-ray, it is really a treat. I hadn't seen this movie till now and it really didn't disappoint. The premise is one of intrigue and the casting was perfect as everyone really gave life and personality to their characters. The soundtrack and visuals on the screen really give a creepy feel that delivers what a horror movie should and really screws with your mind as to what you are seeing. The audio in Dolby True HD was punchy and in-your-face, but at times had the dialogue a little too soft and I found myself straining to hear what was being said and having to go back. The effects delivered visually and in high def at full 1080p really were believable and didn't have a phony look as some other movies have from the same era of production. The bonus features give a good look at how the film was put together along with a commentary track by director Paul Anderson and producer Jerry Bult.

I enjoyed watching this movie and definitely will find myself returning to it for a good horror film. One thing with Event Horizon is there are holes in the story that never get filled but, if you want to get scared from visuals and not so much story, this film delivers admirably.
