Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas in Disney Digital 3-D When I went to see the 3-D version of Chicken Little I did not think Disney did much with the 3-D aspect of that particular film. The current 3-D version of The Nightmare Before Christmas is a huge improvement, and was a great choice to turn into a 3-D project. The 3-D aspect of this movie is very convincing and a lot of fun to watch. Of course it was a great film to begin with. I recently saw the non 3-D version at a midnight movie with a packed house. With the new 3-D version the ticket price was three dollars higher in comparison to a regular movie ticket, but if you are interested well worth the price. I actually am ready to go back and see this again before it disappears from the theaters. I usually sit fairly close to the screen at a 3-D movie, but was interested in seeing The Nightmare Before Christmas from the rear of the theater to see how well the 3-D effect works from that vantage point. This might be a sign that I need to get out in the real world a little more if this is something that really bugs me. The movie may be the pinnacle of puppet animation movies, and the work that must have gone into it is truly jaw dropping. In 3-D I loved the scene where they show Jack on the weird little hill with a huge moon right behind him. When watching the 3-D you get a much better sense of texture in some of the scenes, maybe because since it is 3-D you tend to focus on what is closer to you. I have always loved the Sally's song segment. I have probably watched that little three minute sequence more times than I would care to admit (the sequence in Eraserhead where they reveal where the title comes from might be a close second). The Sally's song sequence is a very beautiful and affecting piece of work. In the immortal words of MST'3000's Frank in the Godzilla vs Megalon episode; "It will make you laugh, it will make you cry, and maybe.... just maybe, teach ya a little something about yourself."
