Friday the 13th Part 3-3D: Deluxe Edition
It’s spine-tingling horror in a whole new dimension as Friday the 13th Part 3-3D: Deluxe Edition comes to Blu-ray DVD! A carefree summer becomes a deadly nightmare for another group of naïve counselors who choose to ignore Camp Crystal Lake’s gruesome legacy. They find themselves in a bloody game of cat-and-mouse with the maniacal Jason who stalks their every move…and ruthlessly kills them off one-by-one.
The third installment came to the theaters in 3D. I remember wanting to go and see it so badly but I was 10 and that didn’t happen. Since then I have seen it a number of times on TV but, never got to see it in 3D until now. This Blu-ray DVD comes out with a remastered picture in 1080p along with 2 pairs of 3D glasses. You can choose to watch in either 2D or 3D. I don’t want to waste your time to tell you the plot because it is pretty basic in that the killer is Jason Voorhees and yet again we have a female lead who needs to stop Jason. I would say kill him but we all know that you can’t kill him as long as there is a profit to be made in Hollywood. Thinly veiled attempts to tie in the story with the 3D effects come across extremely hokey. However, the one thing that really makes this movie a must have in your collection is that this is the movie where Jason gets the infamous hockey mask. There are some good kills and fight scenes that are featured in a barn, but the opening scene has a woman and man in their home/corner store that seems like it was added for filler and to try and give some suspense. It has nothing to do with the rest of the movie other than to have Jason in and out of shadows like a game of cat and mouse and building suspense for the audience by playing the infamous Jason music. After he finally kills the people off is when the movie and plot take shape and bring us back to the same old story of a group of kids going up to the lake.
I enjoy this movie and perhaps the nostalgia of remembering the original advertisement for it in the paper when I was 10 years old and wanting to see it in 3D so badly leaves a warm spot in my heart, if that’s possible for a slasher movie. I recommend this movie for the die-hard fans and I am very pleased with the results of the Blu-ray remastering of this version especially with the improvement in the 3D effect. It is quite good seeing this release in full 1080p high def and this movie really shines in the audio being offered in Dolby TrueHD. The dialogue is very crisp and especially the blood curdling screams really shine through and the infamous “Jason” music will get your heart thumping. There are some very interesting bonus features that are worth checking out.
